King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla met with the public in London this afternoon after he was officially proclaimed King earlier today in front of the Privy Council

After being proclaimed officially as our King this morning, King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla greeted crowds at The Mall this afternoon.

There were plenty of cheers and applause as they shook hands and accepted bouquets of flowers from people who had waited hours for a chance to meet the new King and Queen Consort.This public appearance comes as Prince William and Harry stepped out with wives Kate and Meghan to greet mourners outside Windsor Castle.

The appearance was a welcome surprise for the crowds and one lovely moment witnessed was when Meghan Markle hugged a teenager in the crowd.Charles was officially proclaimed our new monarch in front of the Privy Council - while the Prince of Wales, William, and Queen Consort Camilla acted as witnesses.

This comes after King Charles III confirmed that the day of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral will be a bank holiday.
