But for Pauline, she will be running the 26.2-mile course with her mum and dad at the forefront of her mind in a “lap of honour”.
Jean battled for over 16 years with kidney disease, receiving two kidney transplants and being well enough, at stages in her life, to be a participant in the British Transplant Games and the World Transplant Olympics.Pauline’s dad, Harry Lawrie, also passed away under tragic circumstances. A police sergeant and Killin Mountain Rescue Team leader, Harry tragically died following a horror helicopter crash in February 1987.
Unfortunately when attempting to land on the hillside the helicopter rotor struck a rock crashed into the hillside and slid down towards the team already on the hill. She said: “I’m 54, not a runner at all, and only started doing a ‘Couch to 5k’ in September last year when I found out I had a place to run the marathon for Kidney Care UK.
