Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was"appalled" by PC Andrew Harper's death
Thames Valley Police said 10 males, aged between 13 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody at various stations.Thames Valley Police Chief Constable John Campbell said the death of PC Harper, an Abingdon-based roads policing officer, had left the entire force"shocked and saddened".
Mr Johnson said the officer's death was"an absolute tragedy"and"the most powerful reminder that police officers up and down the country put themselves at risk every single day to keep us safe".Mr Campbell said PC Harper was a"highly regarded, popular member of the team" and his death was a"significant loss" to the force and also to his colleagues and friends.
Thames Valley Police said it was still trying to establish the exact circumstances in which PC Harper was killed. "So proud of him. Our love goes to his lovely wife, mum and dad, brother and all of his family and friends."In the past 10 years at least 10 officers have been killed during an incident involving a criminal suspect.
With all the increased stabbings in the UK, I am shocked that police are not all carrying guns. What a disservice to them & their families. And shouldn't u all start having honest conversations about why this is happening?

To say nothing of visits from their loved ones. Pc Harper’s wife will never see her loved one again. We’re to soft- too many do gooders! The police put their lives on the line for US when they put that uniform on ! We need to man up and deal with the scum out on our street
10 arrests have been made ages ranging from 13-30. But hey- what have they to look forward too, prison ( not even life) 3 cooked meals a day, tv, play station, oh and how’s about a game of pool on an afternoon!!! They can work, even get education or learn new skills ! GREAT !

Our brave Police Officers need better protection & equipment to be able to fight crime effectively. Attacks on our Officers seem to be increasing. Too many lives are lost. It’s time for our Government to invest in our Police Officers who risk their lives daily to protect us.

Absolutely shocking, a police officer killed in his line of duty. The time has come for all our police officers to be armed. This cannot be happening in the 21st Century. In fact never.

This is very unfortunate. We can't just stop talking about the gallant attitude shown by the slain PC. A. Harper. My heart bleeds while listening to Chief Constable Campbell's statement about the newly wedded PC. We must help find who this real killer is. It's painful feeling.

I wish peace to PC Andrew Harper's soul and I join Boris Johnson and Priti Patel in sympathies to family. I wonder if the Cabinet would consider for British police to be armed with revolvers as it is in Europe and worldwide. British society has changed, police should also change.
