“I remember telling my mates I was doing a film based on a Disney theme-park ride,” says the 34-year-old actress, thinking back to the moment shortly after her 17th birthday when she was cast in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. “And they laughed and went, ‘Well, that’s your career over then.’ Whereas these days, it would seem like the luckiest imaginable break.”
