Diane Abbott has become the first Labour MP to publicly say Sir Keir Starmer should 'consider his position' if he is fined by police over 'beergate'

Why you can trust Sky News

Sir Keir Starmer has said he is confident he did not breach any rules when he had a beer and a takeaway with colleagues while COVID restrictions were in place. The Labour leader said he was working and stopped to eat when he was filmed having a beer in a room in Durham last April, when COVID rules banned household mixing indoors apart from working.

"As I've explained a number of times, I was working in the office, we stopped for something to eat, there was no party, no breach of the rules," he said.Sir Keir Starmer filmed drinking a beerwas announced by Durham Constabulary on Friday.Earlier on Saturday, Diane Abbott became the first Labour MP to publicly say Sir Keir may have to step down if he is fined over the incident.

The shadow home secretary under Jeremy Corbyn told LBC:"If he actually gets a fixed penalty notice he really has to consider his position.

Having Abbott screw him over is only what we'd expect from a person besotted with the wrecker Corbyn.

Abbot, Corbyns mate, seriously 😂

Man's a lier full stop 2millon home not real labour

This us partygate not beergate drinks and food with several people is a party and somebody supplied the beer What's the difference ?

This coming from the maths genius is rich.

JulietB270880 And she is right.

BJ not and he was gi en a fixed penalty. BJ should have stepped down lone ago for his misleading and lies

Starmer plus Rayner always saying P. M. should resign so the pair of you should practice what you preach, resign.

Wonder why the media is making her relevant again 🙄 she'll be joining lib Dems next trying to suckle on the power teet

Of course she thinks Jeremy will come back

I think Abbott should put a cork in it. Starmer was not on government property. He wasn’t sending government employees out to buy suitcases full of wine. The police dismissed it before. Tories seeking to knock their disaster off Page 1. Starmer should resign? Boris, you first!

Tom_Fowdy Immediately after the win in election? A choice between two rotten tomatoes.

JulietB270880 As usual, Diane is Abbsolutely right.

Tom_Fowdy Keir_Starmer is as dodgy as they come, he’s also a vocal supporter of Palestinian genocide. Evil person.

Apart from 'partygate' and 'beer gate', how many more 'gates' are there?

And what about Boris!! Country has gone fucking crazy

Haha she’s certainly hanging in there 😂

one thing, that's a non issue vs I forget how many now, 'several' actual parties? when is balance coming back? the BBC chucked it out some time ago but found that calling unbalanced reporting balanced to be equivalent...it isn't but that's what they went with, big mistake imo.

Abbott is a Corbyn supporter n a loony lefty so she is just grabbing headlines for the sake of it. No- one takes her seriously, do they?

Yeah but it's hard Left NATO hater Abbott

Is she still “counting” on Corbyn to come back (pun intended), bless her!

Vote for her. Just for laughs 🤣

Shut up HackneyAbbott the mother of a son charged with 11 new offences plus Keir_Starmer can remove your whip if Johnson can stay in power after being charged so can Starmer stay as Labour leader if I was you Keir remove Abbotts whip teach her a lesson

Good old Diane…she will do ANYTHING to preserve her career and taxpayer funded wages LBC TalkTV piersmorgan campbellclaret

The moral high ground is a precarious place to be unless you are perfect that is

She couldn't spell P45 let alone recommend it.

Party gate and beer gate are now beyond boring, can we move on FGS…

A beer doesn't make a party even for UKLabour Maybe if AngelaRayner EmilyThornberry DavidLammy organised w/ cameo from edballs .. HackneyAbbott doing the G&Ts.. might begin to look like a party...

She does know he’s Labour doesn’t she? 🤷‍♂️😂

Love you Di xxxxx

She's only telling the truth. They should both go and for the same reason.

She is 100% correct

Says the person caught drinking alcohol (Mojito) on the London underground, which has been illegal since 2008. Still an MP.

He can’t do anything else but resign after calling Boris to do after breaking the law if he’s found to of broken the same laws

Why is the whole country so worried about this fine? He should just pay it, how poor are your knights lol

... but also says she doesn't believe he should be fined and is supporting him all the way.

As usual, she is absolutely right

What is the Keir Starmer ‘Beergate’ scandal and how does it compare to Partygate? In the lead up to the local elections, some Tory supporting newspapers have been reporting about Keir Starmer’s “Beergate scandal”. Since the Tories can't win with their record of poor policies, let's try and smear the opposition. Beergate is the same as the partygate Starmer has banged on about above all other issues Only difference is the media not Boris talk about it Just as well because the broadcasting media have ignored it.
