Secretary of State Antony Blinken says reasons for sending about 2,500 Russian-led troops are unclear.

Russian officials say the 2,500 strong force will only remain in Kazakhstan temporarily

Officials in Moscow have emphasised that the deployment of its forces under the Collective Security Treaty Organization , a Eurasian military alliance of five former Soviet republics and Russia, is temporary.Watch: The BBC's Abdujalil Abdurasulov hears gunfire as he visits the scene of clashes in Almaty

"It would seem to me that the Kazakh authorities and government certainly have the capacity to deal appropriately with protests to do so in a way that respects the rights of protesters while maintaining law and order," Mr Blinken said. The Interior Ministry says 26 "armed criminals" and 18 security officers have been killed so far in the clashes and President Tokayev blamed what he called foreign "terrorists" for the unrest.

Good on Russia !!

Looks like Vladimir is trying to get the block back together

mind your own business!!! oh! you're looking for another war for business e?! wehehe!

America and NATO not required , oh dear, sovereign government chooses local assistance.

Would have thought that Blinken was all for law and order (except of course when it’s some country other than the US that’s getting it done).

Blinken is such an expert who knows so much about so little - especially when it comes to Kazakhstan... Seems that the US underestimated Tokayev et al. when it tried its dirty tricks there.

Shame that Blinken doesn’t know “his you know what” from “his you know where”...But we all know that the US caused these problems in the first place...
