The Princess of Wales has been pictured alongside Prince William leaving Windsor Castle today. The Prince of Wales was seen heading to Westminster Abbey for the annual Commonwealth Day service this afternoon with his wife beside him.

Kate publicly took the blame for the family photograph released on SundayKate Middleton is recovering well and will be back by Easter, royal insiders have claimed - but they say she needs to be left in peace as she struggles to deal with the aftermath of Mother's Day photo row.

'It’s an awful lot to be under all of this public scrutiny when you are recovering from major surgery,' one told American celebrity news site Page Six.On Sunday, Kensington Palace released the first picture of the Princess of Wales since surgery'The rumor mill — particularly on social media — has gotten out of control, but Kate is recovering well and she will be back by Easter. She just needs to be left in peace.

The Prince of Wales took the picture of his smiling family on a £2,900 Canon camera before Kate made edits to improve the photo ahead of its public release on Instagram on Sunday. It comes just hours after a royal expert claimed The Princess of Wales is in a 'fragile mental and physical state' and will be 'feeling miserable' amid the photo row.

She said that Kate's Mother's Day was 'obviously ruined by this row' and she 'didn't look that happy' when photographed yesterday in a car with William. And fellow royal expert Angela Levin tweeted: 'People should be proud that Princess Catherine hasn't blamed any member of staff and realise how honourable she is.

'This isn’t a mistake that Meghan would ever make … she has a keen eye and freakish attention to detail.' The Princess felt 'awful' about the picture and had been trying to make it the 'best it could be', insiders told The Times - adding that she was 'thinking of her own children when editing the picture, hoping that they looked good for their own sakes'.

'The Princess made minor adjustments as she shared in her statement on social media, the Wales family spent Mother's Day together and had a wonderful day.' However, questions have been raised over whether the picture was too good to be true. One red flag might have been the fact the beaming family portrait was shot in such a short time on Friday.

A plan was put in place to release the photo and a message from Kate herself at 9am on Sunday - but what quickly ensued was 24 hours of intense scrutiny as the Palace faced questions from all angles over why the family photo appeared to be digitally manipulated.
