Kate Garraway, the Good Morning Britain presenter, has shared that she was hospitalised due to the stress of caring for her husband Derek Draper during his health struggles. The recent documentary about Derek's last few weeks revealed many sad details about Derek, Kate, and their two children's struggle to provide the care Derek needed.
The strain of looking after Derek, who sadly passed away in January aged 56, became so great for Kate, also 56, that it affected her own mental and physical health. This led to her being hospitalised. The impact of Derek's condition on her family, including daughter Darcey, 18, and son Billy, 15, was significant. The ITV programme 'Derek's Story' gave viewers a glimpse into the former politician's heartbreaking final year with his family while he battled his illness.
She expressed her reservations about releasing the new documentary, but did not wish to disappoint her supporters or Derek himself who wanted his story told. Kate had previously shared Derek's lengthy health struggle in the documentaries 'Caring for Derek' and 'Finding Derek', where she emphasised his message of never giving up on those you love.
During these scenes, a close friend of Kate voiced her concerns about potential risks for the Good Morning Britain presenter. "Kate was on her way here, and she had pains in her chest and throw up over herself in the car. It was just that moment of 'christ, even the woman that we thought could go on forever,'" revealed her friend, a radio producer.
