Evidence of the economic consequences of trying to keep populations safe from coronavirus is starting to emerge. The political ramifications are only starting to be assessed – but they could be profound.

Just when EU needed some unity Italy failed it -salvini

right on this Guardian

We are due to take some more shit for a few more months, but we'll wash ourselves.

“There was a way the rest of Europe could have shown Italy some love”. Debt mutualisation is akin to giving someone your wallet which is not a ‘some love’ measure but total economic integration. The people of Britain saw this coming and Brexited. Italy should leave too.

Guardian is slowly awakening to why we voted out of EU.

Closing of borders was the first step into disunity.

I thought eu was a trade body not a baby sitter.

At the time of crisis the friendship and relationship are tested

Just shows that the EU is not as, all controlling as it has been portrayed to be. Its just a collective of individual countries, each governed separately. And none of those countries, including the UK, could have dealt with this perfectly.

🇪🇺 EUseless

I’d like to remind you that the SURE fund and the EIB are essentially shared debt. The ESM too, but Italy somehow doesn’t want to access those 36 billion Euros to fund medical expenses.

If anyone wants to stay in the EU after this there's something wrong somewhere! 🤷‍♀️

Thank god for Brexit...

Coronavirus is the latest crisis the disjointed EU has ended up blundering through'When Europe needed an all-for-one-spirit, too many gave an only-for-me response' | writes Stephen Lynch More proof - as if it were really needed - that the EU is no longer fit for purpose. Can anyone with even a modicum of intelligence not now see that we're doing the very best thing for our country by leaving this crumbling, outdated technocracy? Pity that more people are dying here than in most of Europe.....and they appear to have leaders who know what they are doing...... Typical of a French dominated bureaucratic institution

Who needs a middle-aged woman screaming, “I am scared to go to Morrisons”, via video-link? | Grace DentIt’s not sunbathers the government should fret over; it’s the millions of us it’ll need to convince, once this is over, to come out, blinking into the light Sympathy would help.
