Liverpool may have banished their Brentford hoodoo with a first victory at the Gtech Community Stadium last month, but the fixture proved damaging in other respects.
Then there was Curtis Jones, the first player to fall on the afternoon for Liverpool when suffering an ankle problem barely half-an-hour into the game. Ryan Gravenberch, his replacement from the bench, had a hand in one goal and started the win over Luton Town a few days later before his Wembley outing was cut short after just 28 minutes with an ankle injury.
That may not be quite so straightforward, The absence of Jones has allowed Alexis Mac Allister into what is quickly becoming his best position on the left of the engine room, particularly with Wataru Endo operating as the number six. The three had started twice together before the injury to Jones, with Mac Allister slightly subdued on the right side.
Indeed, with Jones and Gravenberch, it has usually been a case of one or the other. Only five times have they started together and only once in the Premier League - the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal in February.
