The actress, who was best known for starring in hit 1978 film Grease as Sandy, passed away peacefully at her Southern California ranch in the early hours of Monday 8 Aug, her husband, John Easterling, announced via Olivia's official Facebook account.

"This is so incredibly sad, my thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family. Rest In Peace Olivia Newton John, an icon, a legend and forever the one that I want," alongside a broken heart and tearful emoji. "Oh man!!! You were my childhood!! Your talent, poise, beauty!!" she wrote on Twitter, accompanied by the iconic image of Olivia's character Sandy taking to the skies at the end of Grease.
