John Cleese slams BBC's 'stupid' decision to remove Fawlty Towers and defends 'making fun of' Major's racist slurs

JOHN Cleese has blasted a "stupid" decision to drop his classic "Germans" Fawlty Towers episode from TV over its offensive content.

But 80-year-old Monty Python and Fawlty legend Cleese hit back with a withering attack on the forces moving to censor comedy.Cleese - now based in Los Angeles - said: “One of the things I’ve learned in the last 180 years is that people have very different senses of humour. “It reminds me of the definition of a Scottish Presbyterian as someone who has a nasty, sneaking feeling that someone, somewhere, is having a good time.”

“So are we going to get rid of Newton’s optics on the grounds that it’s not really sound any more because he held shares in a company that dealt in slaves?

Maybe they should bring back Alf Garnett, love thy neighbour or Bernard Manning. Whilst these were once accepted as the best of British comedy they were in fact racism of the highest order. They served to put down all minorities but the minorities were told it's only a bit of fun

Fawlty Towers episode removed from UKTVAn episode of the popular British sitcom is pulled for containing 'racial slurs'. Get a grip ffs. It’s even more insulting that the BBC to have to wait 30 years to realise and then jump on with the others AFTER the others started doing it. So Is there a crack team going through all footage to actively find stuff.
