The new chancellor warns of 'very difficult decisions' as he heads to Chequers to hold talks with the PM.

"Taxes are not going to come down by as much as people hoped, and some taxes will have to go up," the chancellor told BBC Radio 4's Today programme. "I'm going to be asking all government departments to find additional efficiency savings."that Mr Hunt planned to delay by a year a 1p cut to the basic rate of income tax - a flagship part of the 23 September mini-budget.

In his latest statement, released on Saturday night, Mr Hunt said: "My focus is on growth underpinned by stability. The drive on growing the economy is right - it means more people can get good jobs, new businesses can thrive and we can secure world class public services. But we went too far, too fast.

There will be a budget at the end of the month that needs to convince financial markets and prove politically palatable to a fuming, mutinous Tory party. One former minister predicted Ms Truss would be gone within weeks - but for now, she limps on, hoping the current turmoil subsides.warned that interest rates may need to be raised"As things stand today, my best guess is that inflationary pressures will require a stronger response than we perhaps thought in August," Mr Bailey said in Washington, less than three weeks before the Bank's monetary policy committee is due to meet.

'Chequers is the country home to the UK Prime Minister.....used for entertaining and unwinding' Here we are, a few weeks into the most destructive start of any new PM and she now on a jolly in Buckinghamshire putting her feet up. Am I missing something?

Every time a politician says they have to make 'very difficult decisions' or 'tough choices' what they really mean is we're going to screw you over every which way and tell you it's for your own good. They themselves are never worse off as a result of their policies.

Where’s LizTruss? We know that she’s at Chequers, but shouldn’t she be telling us that she agrees with, and supports her Chancellor?

Brexit is a fools paradise knocking 4% off our GDP and costing £32 billion a year. You absolute clowns.

Resign and call a election

If you're one of the 99% who didn't have a say in who our current prime minister is (or the one before that, or the one before that), then sign the petition to call a general election when a UK PM resigns. How many more unelected leaders must we endure? Chequers

What a repellant vision C/Hunt is. [While Truss is in hiding in Chequers...]. Chequers-mate.

The sooner the better indyref2

Hunt can continue where he left off trying to flog the NHS to America

Why don't the tory members have one vote for a new leader, then those who get over 33% of the vote go to one vote from the Tory MPs, assuming 2 get over 33%. It will take a couple of weeks at most. Not months of idiotic navel gazing.

Dear Mr Putin although I despise you and every thing you think,do or say. I would be able to forgive a single missile strike on Chequers some time in the next 3 hours. But I must warn you it could improve are economy

AKA - JH to tell LT what the economic plans will be to keep us aligned with the EU.

Will Boris Johnson be there, or has he moved out at last? Or maybe he’s on a speaking tour & neglecting his constituents.

Can't these guys just call for election instead of adding to the problem and expecting people to pay?

And Boris

Checking on the lettuce

Will it commence with competitive tiddlywinks for a peerage as usual

It’s time for a general election.

May I suggest an alternative headline? 'Toxic leader inching his way forward to oust the PM'

So Jeremy Hunt has no financial background at all but is now in charge of the UK monetary. What sort of joke is this.

And don’t forget Boris is still living there, so what a meeting!

Politics these days getting like reality TV show, all acting like spoilt brats, scandal everywhere, get on with job your paid to do, which by the way is too much for the job you do

Oh joy, so more pain for the many and parties for the few.

Just remember the pensioners are the worst off my by far. My total money per week is £190.47. Pay my own rent and council tax. Just over pension credit cut off. It's a disgrace.

Would love to be a fly on that wall, a new chancellor going to the PM with supposedly more power because he’s doing exactly the opposite of what she wanted & that she had no mandate for other than winning a right wing contest…democracy is in trouble

General election- NOW!

Has the squatter Boris allowed them in?

Breaking News - Liz Truss attempts to balance the books..

A think tank to surpass all other think tanks

Jeremy Hunt just got more power than he's ever had. Jeremy Hunt wants to retain his power. That's all this is. Not one of the current Conservative cabinet cares about Britain or the British people at all. We need a general election.
