The 'You're Beautiful' singer has constructed a personal brand around self-deprecating jokes - his new book, Loosely Based on a Made-Up Story, proves the limitations of this communication style

The “You’re Beautiful” singer has constructed a personal brand around self-deprecating jokes – his new book, Loosely Based on a Made-Up Story, proves the limitations of this communication styleopens with the sentence “I am a one-hit wonder” – but I’m not entirely sure that’s true. You can, of course, see how he’s come to that conclusion.

Again, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised: this sort of ironic, postmodern humour is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Blunt. On X, he mostly just roasts himself for his own poshness, mediocrity, music, and, mainly, for being a one-hit wonder.

– but there didn’t seem to be much reluctance about it. He was, and is, wholeheartedly dedicated to the bit: building a brand for himself as a self-aware, self-deprecating guy and not the pathetic sap who filmed a music video in which he took all his clothes off in the snow.
