This was English football's most important day for more than half a century. It felt like it in every fibre of Wembley.
Southgate's response was a low-key fist pump while Mancini threw his hands in the air lamenting how Italy, who went into this final on the back of a 33-match unbeaten run, could concede so cheaply. The country had waited more than 20,000 days to finally claim that major crown and the opportunity to do it on home soil was almost overwhelming.
They demanded Jack Grealish, the new people's champion, and it was a surprise Southgate waited until the 99th minute to introduce a player who may have at least given those two teak-tough defensive enforcers Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini - combined age 70 - some worrying moments. England lost impetus and Wembley's worries ran alongside each other. Somehow their convictions seemed to desert them, even Southgate himself seemingly reluctant to change the course of a game that ran Italy's way.
Appealing insensitive headline. Really ignominious editors at BBC
Before we start feeling sorry for these young players , let’s not forget how much they get paid to do this ‘job’
Media blackout on the riots I see.
BBC noticeably quiet about city scenes yesterday. The country whipped up into a frenzy by a Gov't ,brakes off with a carte blanche to run amok . Gov't desperate to plug into any reflected glory from the team's success & to hell with responsibility .Now the National hangover
Congrats
Ecstacy and agony. At least sports are back on and fans can gather. Well done to both teams.
So Good England
😁
This shows Mussolini is better than Churchill.
And too much beer by the look of things
Show Southgate the South Door 🚪
Grealish should have come on when Saka was introduced. We needed creativity
Congrats
Italy is black horse in every tournament, nobody noticed but wins final.
White folks Always blame blacks for their fuck ups.. Those guys came in at the end of the game. If England had the lead it wouldn't have come down 2 using 2nd string guys..
One thing that's being missed in all this is that Donnarumma's a top keeper who was voted player of the tournament. He's not an easy keeper to beat in a penalty shootout, the England players would've needed to be particularly precise, which is hard when you've just come on.
They behaved like absolute savages. As usual.
Perhaps if they won in 90 minutes they wouldn’t put themselves under pressure 🤷🏻♂️
Now if only an Italian had won today at Wimbledon

Everybody got to experience joy in this match. It’s a game and a team had to lose but it was lovely to see so many happy people. 🙂 It’s just entertainment. Gotta take it lightly. On to the next match!
Pressure! SaveZoeysPlaylist
Just perplexed as to the thought process on who took the penalties. Clearly the “meticulous” planning didn’t work EuroFinal
The pressure was created by the English media You guys failed your team
It's soccer ... better luck next match or game or whatever ... Drop penalty kicks to determine ANYTHING ... flip a coin.
Not a mask in sight. If you know any of these people, avoid them like the plague in the next two weeks.
