It's 'too dangerous to reopen schools as bugs like coronavirus prey on kids', experts warn

IT'S "too dangerous" to reopen schools because respiratory bugs like coronavirus "prey on kids", experts have warned.

Schools are likely to reopen in waves, with kids in Year 6 at the front of the queue - given it's a vital stage in a child's development - followed by younger children and years 10 and 12. But Sir Patrick, added that the evidence around whether children are less likely to get infected is "less robust".

He added that another factor to be considered is how much children in different age brackets might come into contact with other households and potentially transmit the virus that way. One study is set to follow 2,000 families for six months and scientists have claimed that without this plethora of data which will observe the habits and coming and goings of families then, they will be "left in the dark" when it comes to learning more regarding the transmission of the virus between children.

reported that one headteacher in Leeds said it was "impossible" to implement the correct measures in schools."What we can't afford to do is have wave two. What's going to win this? Is it going to be money or is it going to be health?"I’ve just been around all the classrooms with a tape measure to see how many children I can get in each room with a view to social distancing.
