A man has died in police custody in Greater Manchester after being arrested over a reported disturbance.
The 57-year-old was detained in Stockport at about 4.30am on Sunday but he became unwell after arriving at Cheadle Police Station.Chief Superintendent Wayne Miller confirmed the man's death. The Independent Officer for Police Conduct has opened an investigation and regional director Amanda Rowe said"a thorough investigation into all the circumstances" will be carried out.She said:"Our sympathies are with the man's family and all those affected by his death."Our investigation is obviously at a very early stage and we will be carrying a thorough investigation into all the circumstances.
Any death in custody is investigated the fact that the media reports it is that it is a rare occurrence.
