Nightingale hospitals across England are also being ‘readied’ for use should the numbers of patients continue to rise. A spokesman for the NHS said: ‘Hospitals in London are coming under significant pressure from high Covid-19 infection rates and while staff are going the extra mile and the NHS in London is opening more beds in NHS hospitals across the capital to care for the most unwell patients, it is crucial that people do everything they can to reduce transmission of the virus.
