Mr Morrison visited the torched town after the fire claimed the lives of a father and son, rising the death toll to 18.

Red-faced Scott Morrison made a get away after residents hurled insults at him in a devastated town

Residents are being increasingly cut off from access to clean water, food, fuel and medical supplies as blazing temperatures and high winds cause the crisis to worsen. He has been criticised for taking a family holiday to Hawaii before Christmas and for defending his climate policies as the country burned.

A week-long state of emergency has been declared in New South Wales as soaring temperatures are expected to reach up to 46C on Saturday. Officials are preparing to impose forced evacuations on tourists and locals after thousands were trapped in coastal towns earlier this week.
