A people smuggler has been jailed for trying to sneak seven people – including two children – into the UK in a hidden room in his van.
Border Force said the room was built for the ‘sole purpose of smuggling’ and that there was no way for them to get out of the hidden compartment in the Mercedes Sprinter van without outside help. Paul Morgan, director of Border Force South East and Europe, said: ‘The van had been adapted for the sole purpose of smuggling.‘There was no way for the people hidden inside the partition to get in or out without outside assistance.
