Neighbours legend Ian Smith, who played the iconic role of Harold Bishop, will make a triumphant return to Ramsay Street after 15 years away from the spotlight. At the grand age of 85, the much-loved character will be stepping back into the Australian soap, even reclaiming his spot in the opening credits.
Secret adoption At the age of 54, Ian found out that his mother wasn't his biological mother at all - and he had actually been adopted. The star learnt that his birth mother Peg Kline had fallen pregnant with him when she was just 13 years old, reports Daily Star. Depression battle Away from his character's bubbly persona on Neighbours, Ian has battled depression since he found out the truth about his adoption. He previously opened up to Daily Mail Australia in 2017 about his mental health battles and said he was "taking too much medication" to really feel the full impact of "the black dog".
Family heartache Tragically, both of Ian's mothers passed away not long after he learned about his adoption. However, he did get the chance to connect with his adoptive mum Peg and his two half-brothers.
