UK Government 'concern' at Indian Covid variant growth speed

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the government was supporting areas where cases were rising and urged people to "continue to be vigilant".

"We are monitoring the situation very carefully and will not hesitate to take further action if necessary," he said.saying: "It is a variant of concern, we are anxious about it."The next major easing of restrictions is due to take place on 17 May. Surge testing is already taking place in 15 areas across England. This is when increased testing and enhanced contact tracing is carried out in specific locations to try to prevent the spread of outbreaks.

The DHSC said additional measures where "clusters" of cases are detected would include increased genome sequencing of cases; increased community engagement; and encouraging uptake of the vaccine for those who are eligible.Cases of the Indian variant in the UK have been recorded in London,

The anus of the British and Americans is connected.

How can BJ and our gov make the same mistake so many times, why risk a year of lockdown and vaccinating? Do we really think they're that incompetent or reckless? Beginning to believe instability just allows them to make more money.

All indian diaspora in England should be put behind the bars

People keep on saying flights should have been stopped between India and U.K. Fact is, there have been none for months now, only repatriation ones. And I’m not gonna be lectured by people who are privileged to wave at their old parents from a window in the U.K. because I can’t.

Not concerned enough to stop it arriving. Just concerned enough to threaten us with more lockdowns and restrictions. Dangerous game, compliance must be at an all time low already. Who is still struggling to see the madness unfolding? It must be in plain sight to all, surely.

Mmm 🤔

At least the airports are open.

people are not dying ! panic as usual

We all knew the next wave was around the corner; yet people threw parties; thinking it's all over. I'm Glad I didn't join the band wagon on that one.

This is why government should have closed our borders instantly when this strain started. We don't know who's in the UK & what they brought in. Now we could be heading for a nightmare again. Though the do gooders would have moaned if borders closed. Let's hope they get it first

I hope this doesn't mean delaying the easing of the lockdown, even on a regional basis. More than half the UK's adult population has apparently now had the first dose. Please search Google for lunar mountaineering and my BBC link is about Olympus Mons.

The irony of all the criticism of the UK Government here, following this headline, and yet it's the same governments concern getting them worked up - incompetent and efficient all at once.

Once again a delayed decision by the GOV! I won’t be staying in if there’s another lockdown! People need to get their lives back, so BORIS don’t think about delaying the opening up of the full lockdown which is down to your delayed decision to stop travel from India!

You mean Wuhan variant in India?

And royals that’s why every one lost their jobs so they could own all companies for Jack shit run them their way making them selves rich on our stolen money they robbed out of the USA !! But hey the gov brainwashed every one like they had a right we didn’t or couldn’t go to see

Could this be the biggest lie in history ?

It does appear to spread faster than the Kent variant. The only real question now is how effective the vaccine is for this variant & how much it will increase hospitalisations.

Is Johnson going to call a press conference tomorrow and ban stuff?

Blah blah blah anything to keep us locked down

Coronavirus latest news: Local lockdowns won't beat Indian variant, warns Oxford professorLocal restrictions will not contain the spread of the Indian variant of Covid-19, and it should be viewed as a countrywide problem, an expert has warned. Care staff infected after vaccine 'avoid illness from Indian variant'Cases of vaccines failing and people getting severe Covid have still been 'very, very rare' even in the face of India's colossal outbreak, according to virologist Dr Shahid Jameel. 33 huh? That’s hardly a conclusive test group, especially as we don’t know their ages, health or any other mitigating factors. ‘Proof’ is probably too strong a word. ‘Early signs are encouraging’ would be better but wouldn’t get the clicks would you?
