News Daily: May backs Trump row ambassador, and Tory contenders face TV clash

His comments on President Donald Trump's administration have caused problems for her government but Theresa May is giving Sir Kim Darroch - the UK's ambassador to the US -However, Downing Street says the emails he sent in 2017"do not reflect the closeness of, and the esteem in which we hold, the relationship" between the countries.

Sir Kim's messages described the Trump administration - then in its early days - as"dysfunctional" and"clumsy and inept". The president has responded to their publication with anger, tweeting on Monday that he and his colleagues would"no longer deal" with Sir Kim.Here's her take on the situation. The two men battling it out to be Conservative leader and prime minister meet for the first time in a one-to-one TV debate later.

We can expect a lot of talk about Brexit from Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson, in front of an audience of 200 people at MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester.

IMO there is no way the ambassador is responsible for these accurate assessments. These ideas are shared & spoken freely in corridors, on phones, at home by all diplomats..bc this is the reality...so poor is the Trump's governance May can't bring herself to disagree.

Perhaps anything derisory realDonaldTrump has to say need not bother our Untied Kingdom much, because if either Bumbling Boris or Happy-Go-lucky Hunt becomes Prime Minister 😩then, by comparision, both would appear to possess a morsel of intelligence; just not such good actors!

May has risen, go for it Teresa, the neck is best

Russia hates the English N Korea, China & now the English are turning the UK against America English backed khan & the Balloon Muslims marching in London say they will CONQUER AMERICA

thrown the teddy out of the pram again-this joke should not be the leader of the western world. normal services will be resumed as soon as possible-i hope.

theresa_may is wrong & SirKimDarroch was also wrong to think that after this fiasco, Sir Kim could stay in his job! Did they really think realDonaldTrump would invite him to dinner & thank him He should have flown back by now & Gov ought to have condemned it unequivocally

BBCRadioLondon Nice of her to develop a backbone a few days before she leaves office

A breakthrough now President Trump is expressing his true feelings the therapy can get underway.

And so much for all those wonderful WTO trade deals just waiting to be signed! Farage, Banks and BoJo to profit?

Ambassador did nothing wrong. What he wrote was private and probably correct. Can't have leakers and the US deciding who we appoint

can someone explain why it would be good for the UK to have a trade deal with the USA? Trump has declared 'America first'. They want NHS access. In return we get chlorinated chicken, beef with hormone injection. Whats wrong with the current situation. Far better deals elsewhere!

Gilchrist part deux.

May backs Ambassador while trump has anointed a new PM for the 🇬🇧 to replace her. Shame, the 🇬🇧 cannot even find a new PM for herself!

When Donald Trump behaves more diplomatically than the UK Ambassador then you know there is something very fishy afoot.

The worst PM in history backs the worst ambassador to the US. Both of their way out. What a joke.

Ganará la reeleccion! Apoyado por el Jefe Supremo y Marchelo.

Ambassador Nigel.

Of course she will back him . Has she ever done anything right ?
