The retail giant joins a growing list of firms changing their rules as staff absences and costs begin to bite.

Ikea has cut sick pay for unvaccinated staff who need to self-isolate because of Covid exposure, joining a growing list of firms changing their rules.

"Unvaccinated co-workers will be paid in line with our company absence policy for self-isolation, with close-contact isolation being paid at Statutory Sick Pay. A Wessex Water spokesperson said absences have soared this year: "The vast majority of our workforce has been vaccinated and it's important as a company providing essential services with key worker employees, the remainder get vaccinated to protect themselves, customers and their colleagues.

Last year, supermarket Morrisons cut its sick pay levels, while several companies, including banking giant Citigroup, introduced a "no jab, no job" policy. Delta Airlines imposed a surcharge on unvaccinated staff members of its healthcare plan.

Would Clevelanddotcom ever report about or say how important for pediatricians and other clinicians to report any health concerns that arise after vaccination. One can only wonder.

Don’t have to self isolate if you don’t test yourself

It’s laughable people on here are arguing for a company to dictate the medical procedures their employees must have. This is a retail employer — the majority are underpaid. It will mean is people will delete Test & Trace and ignore isolation guidance. It’s bad for public health.

Fuck ikea lol

Wont be buying my kitchen from there now... Though why would you do a test to confirm you have to self isolate.. just go to work :D buy some Bitcoin and get off zero..

You reap what you sew

All that will do is that staff that do have covid won’t phone in sick.

Ikea - you've just lost a customer looking to spend £10k on furniture because I don't like discrimination. What next no sick pay for smokers on chemo? breachofemploymentlaw IKEAUK

Lots of employers at it. I had to isolate last year after showing symptoms and waiting on test results. Because my test was negative I lost 3 days pay as per the absence policy.

Lame

Genius! The best way to spread covid all over the place is to make absolutely sure that you can't tell anyone you've got covid! Given that it's mild in the majority of cases, it's a given that many of these will just show up to work with it. Good job IKEA, glad I'm not sick.

Discrimination at its finest…

I advise all the unvaccinated employees show up to work even if you’re positive if you can’t afford the cut. Don’t let them force you to take a vaccine we all have human rights

So people will just go in even if they could be infectious 🙈

The irony in this is ikea are from Sweden... The country who successfully chose a different route through Covid. Their sports venues, entertainment venues, shops and work places stayed open and they are now in a better position than the UK is...

Maybe they need to look at obesity closer first🤔

GoodLawProject

THEY STILL HAVE TO EAT AND PAY THEIR BILLS

Good idea.

Plenty of other places to shop or work... Line up for your 4th, 5th and 6th boosters folks, it's funny to watch the mass psychosis from the sidelines. Oh and fuck Ikea.

I'm not sympathetic I'm afraid. Some people only get SSP whether vaccinated or not. They have no choice, these people do.

I understand IKEAUK were withholding sick pay for being off with covid more than once and longer than 2 weeks- isn’t that why they sacked the Shop Steward who stood up to them? RichieVenton

Not a customer of IKEA any more. Adios

So, an unvaxed person gets sick - cut pay; a vaxxed person gets sick - paid as normal. What is the difference? Both employees are sick. If I get sick because of contact with sick vaxxed person - tough luck. If because of unvaxxed one - crucify that person.

Good idea..

Disgusting move by IKEA

But... Vaccinated people still have to isolate after positive tests right....? Genuine question

If you your not sick … it ain’t sick pay is it ?!?!! all entitled to full pay

Simple really just don’t get tested and just go in like normal. If you can get out of bed and work then do so, my place lets people with colds and all sorts but perfectly fine employees are being sent home. Don’t give them chance - just refuse to test.

Considering it doesn’t stop transmission this is openly idiotic and political. “No one will be discriminated against based on their health and medical conditions” is also kinda of enshrined in UK law. IKEAUK pathetic

Out of interest all the people that think this is wrong how many are willing to pay extra so the companies don’t do this?

Ha ha. Oh well...

I know around a dozen people who have had Covid. All but one had been vaccinated. You still have to take time off work regardless of vaccination status.

Good idea, we need more of this with protections of course for those who have a genuine medical reason for not being vaccinated.

IKEA has just won back my business

What happened to freedom of choice bliddy joke takeing away human rights

Excellent....go ever better sack the unvaccainted they the unvaccinated are a danger to public health ......!

COOL AMBIENT RAIN SOUNDS FOR STUDY, INSOMNIA RELIEF AND FOCUSING

They should also include not getting paid stock leave if you get extremely sick even if you vaccinated. I mean why were you irresponsible and exposing yourself

I'm triple vaxxed and off work with covid ATM. If only the vaccine stopped you getting covid....Think this is wrong by IKEA. People may just turn up for work.

Simple solution, don’t self isolate or tell them you have food poisoning. Problem solved

Yep all public services should adopt similar stance.

Well done 👏 👍
