An iconic Nottingham pub statue that hasn't been seen for years has been rediscovered - rotting away in a charity shop 's backyard. The ' Old General ' stood over the door of the Hyson Green pub of the same name for more than a century. It was removed when the pub, on the corner of Radford Road and Bobbers Mill Road, was redeveloped in 2016.
However, an agent for the developers, Derek Francis, reassured locals at the time that the figure, based on an eccentric local character, was safely stored in a secret location. He said in a BBC article: "A lot of people have said that as far as they are concerned it is priceless, so we are very mindful of that." He added that the statue would be be incorporated into the new development so that future generations could see it. However, this never happened.
