“Underestimating the skill and determination of Ukrainians to fight, and the willingness of Western governments to supply them with weapons and training, has already cost [Vladimir] Putin dearly”

THE OUTCOME of Russia’s war in Ukraine remains in doubt. But there is no question that Vladimir Putin’s decision to launch a large-scale invasion is one of the worst strategic decisions any leader of a powerful country has made in decades. There is no plausible outcome in Ukraine that won’t leave Mr Putin and Russia far worse off than before February 24th, when the war began.

Jokes about Russian vaccines and long tables aside, a primary cause of Mr Putin’s miscalculation must surely be his personal isolation. He appears no longer to listen to opposing points of view.

There is no reason to believe that Russia’s failed “phase 1” effort to capture Kyiv will lead to significant improvements in the flow of information up and down the flow of military command. Incentive structures remain too warped.

This hits the nail in the head, of Putin

And calculate how much sanctions and opposition to Putin cost for a simple European

ianbremmer Thank you The Economist, Ian Bremmer is much acclaimed, one of may favorites.

ianbremmer The world knows biden is inept. How long untill China takes Taiwan?

ianbremmer There is nothing enlightening in that article. The war situation is above Ian's pay grade. A month ago, he said that Europe would stop buying Russian gas.

ianbremmer ( proper ) metrics are a quintessential tool in any science. Political science isn't a true science in a sense due to the ( very ) loose relation between cause and effect

ianbremmer From today's speech by the President of Russia to the employees of the Prosecutor's Office ❗️❗️❗️ ,, We know by name the curators of ukrainian nazis from Western services, primarily the CIA, who give such advice as the murder of journalists ,,

EurasiaGroup War is a blessing for American to sell oil and gas at high price to Europe and rest of world. I am wondering who is profiteering 🤔🤔

EurasiaGroup America’s worse off since the Vietnam War.

EurasiaGroup Russia's move, predictable or else, they're unlocking answers to many questions, for many to see and think, differently.

EurasiaGroup A strategic, military and humanitarian cockup of gigantic proportions.

EurasiaGroup European leaders should stay away from the drug addiction comedian and selfish, greedy US/UK English speaking gang.

EurasiaGroup FTFY. “There is no plausible outcome on the planet that won’t leave [humanity] the people and all countries far worse off than before February 24th, when the war began” The war profiteers funding each side gain. We all lose.

EurasiaGroup I m not sure you can count that in $

EurasiaGroup Si señores, Ucrania está mejor y Rusia peor...en serio...1 poco de seriedad...donde está el dibujante

EurasiaGroup Americans and Allies have been committing War crimes since ww2, Putin has not invaded or brought regime changes as much as Imperialist US and Allies have done

EurasiaGroup You guys are just salty that Russia prepared itself for this.

ianbremmer Think of American invasions of Iraq,Libye,Afghanistan,Vietnam,Somalia,Syria ,...too.Those countries were sovereign States but were totally destroyed by US-led coalition forces(NATO) just to show off American global dominance and supremacy. NO to imperialism .

ianbremmer Hey guys. Help! I need help finishing PHd dissertation . The supervisor insists on including a place called SOLOMON ISLAND 🇸🇧 🏝 in my dissertation . Does anyone knows why it was named after Solomon?

ianbremmer Western world is falling down, falling down, falling down. And this guy? Encourages you to pretend something else is going on.

ianbremmer Too early to know. What if it’s all a distraction to tie up resources in Europe so China can move in on Taiwan and South East Asia?

ianbremmer He really had no choice. We were arming and training ethnic Ukrainians in the west to invade and conquer eastern Ukraine, home to ethnic Russian Ukrainian separatists. His support at home would’ve been infinitely more damaged had he sat back and watched that happen. Unavoidable.

ianbremmer Was Iraq and Afghanistan invasion a wise decision?

ianbremmer These are the good decisions that world leaders have made, according to The Economist's point of view.

ianbremmer That's not his business. He should count the cost of supporting war in the western world where he lives

ianbremmer The only (terrifying) rational explanation for Putin's behaviour I can think of is that he's signed a secret pact with China and Ukraine is only the beginning.

ianbremmer Bremmer is assuming he knows Putin's objectives which he does not. Recency bias and hyperbole won;'t change that. Lying about those parties would be a fatal career decision for BorisJohnson if accountability, enforcement of rules and decency counted for anything.

ianbremmer Russia invasion of Ukraine is one of the most useless war in the history of mankind. Putin is dictator.

ianbremmer They're using interpreters by microphone in the European Parliament to debate as communique is by international languages maybe a German paragraph as Nato is a multilateralism including different nationalities having some academic curreclums with industrial products aiding A math

ianbremmer 'Jokes about Russian vaccines and long tables aside, a primary cause of Mr Putin’s miscalculation must surely be his personal isolation. He appears no longer to listen to opposing points of view. How else could he have believed his army could capture Kyiv in two weeks?'

ianbremmer Putin's decision to invade Ukraine is the best one. Western country leaders and NATO are the first responsibles.

ianbremmer Perhaps the only way to curtail Russian aggression in future is to impoverish that vile nation. China needs to tread carefully too as the Russian regime would stab anyone in their back to support their imperialism. Remember they claimed Ukrainians were their 'brother nation'!

ianbremmer Sure the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan were bigger disasters.

ianbremmer But, It seems that the goal focused to avoid the USA OTAN landed into Russia

ianbremmer Surely NATO moving west after they agreed not to is the worst strategic decision. You can't provoke someone and then blame them when they retaliate

One thing the Russians are really good at is bullsh*tt!ng alot, this war has shown that their military is a complete shambles The world should pitch in and buy Vladimir the penile implant that he desperately needs. Crap name though Sarmat, should have called it Dave or similar.

Putin says western sanctions failedPresident Putin has said that sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine have failed despite a warning by the mayor of Moscow that a boycott by weste Did Russia expect a rise in prices? We did not expect a military operation, but price increases are repeated every year. There are many reasons. The main one is that the Russian government is bourgeois in composition and spirit, it is very close to the Western market model. He’s lying Putin might not know it yet. But it's rather like when a self-harmer looks at what he has done and shudders while pretending that the pain helps. Have a good nightmare or two, please.
