The ex-wife of Iain Packer feared she was going to die when he wrapped a cable around her neck as she tried to stop him using prostitutes.
She said: “I think after Emma he got a taste for it and the power. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were other women after Emma that he had killed. The conviction brought to an end a cold case in which a litany of mistakes were made by the then Strathclyde Police, who enabled Packer to commit further sex attacks while they spent years focusing on the wrong suspects.
Packer’s ex, now 50, was in a relationship with him for six years, during which time they lived together. “They knew in 2007, two years after Emma’s death, that there was a man who had a history of violence, a history of rape, who used sex workers and had even tried to strangle someone with a cable.
