A barista developed an allergy to coffee overnight after spending more than a decade working for a well-known chain. Sophia Robertson had worked at the popular coffee chain for years before she woke up one morning to discover she was allergic to coffee."I'd worked for a well-known coffee chain for more than a decade and I just loved it," Sophia said. "The strange thing is, after all those years, I woke up one day and suddenly found I was actually allergic to coffee.
Having overcome her temporary allergy Sophia's husband Jamie, a builder, planned the perfect surprise by converting one of two former tram waiting rooms in the heart of Darwen town centre into her very own coffee shop. The waiting room is owned by and rented from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
The tiny coffee shop, which has five seats, measures just 235sq ft. That's roughly the size of 19 Portaloos or 25 phone boxes.
