Alice Manley, 29, from Tuebrook, came to Liverpool eight years ago after qualifying as a nurse in Wales, but after a particularly tough time, Alice began to re-think what she wanted to do. Alice feels this line of work offers the benefits of nursing without so many of the traditional drawbacks. She said: "Aesthetics is a type of nursing. I get the beauty of making people feel better in a medical environment without the downsides of being in a hospital. Alice believes pole fitness is viewed unfairly by many. She said: “The main thing with pole fitness is that it gets stigmatised. It gets sexualised a lot. It doesn't have to be. It's based around fitness.
“I hated myself. I didn't like how I felt about my body. Unfortunately it's a common theme in women. It's nice to project positivity. Your body shape is fine the way it is.” As well as promoting body positivity, Alice hopes her experiences will encourage others to leave jobs that make them feel unhappy and be their own boss.
