The dilemma I have a 21-month-old baby and took six months maternity leave. Since returning to work I’ve managed large projects and am delaying trying for baby number two as I don’t want to leave during project delivery. I have high aspirations and I really like my job and enjoy these opportunities. My boss is offering me another big project next year and I feel in a predicament.
Make a choice then, you can't have everything all the time.
Middle class people have careers, everyone else has a job.
On your death bed as you look back what will have been most important for you to do? But at the same time absolutely unfair that this choice impacts the mother’ career and not the father’s.
That as good a reason as any not to have another baby. There is the climate catastrophe and what not as well, of course
You're lucky to have a choice. Freelancers don't.
Miracle of life vs. Some fucking Job is a tough call
I figure it's not a man saying it
Blame the patriarchy ....or some other nonsense
So you are contemplating a career change, then. Leaving one that has no security and accomplishes nothing versus something that will last a lifetime, is very rewarding but challenging, and brings a life into the world. Choose carefully.
It seems that people no longer understand that raising children is a huge responsibility and privilege. It is a career in itself - very rewarding and hugely worthwhile. As the children grow, the at-home parent can gradually take on other projects, paid or unpaid.
