The small wooden sauna in Vilma’s apartment building smelled of fresh cedar, which was warm to the touch. A fire warmed coals in the corner, and Vilma filled a bucket with water and added a ladle. ‘You can either wear a towel or go nude. Either way is fine,’ she said, stepping into the room. ‘I’ll wear a towel,’ I quipped, immediately embarrassed.
