Mobile phones are ruining our chances at a good night’s sleep. One Vogue writer embraces the alarm clock.

On a fundamental level, Loftie is, yes, a time-telling and awakening device. Its main screen shows a digital clock. It wakes you up by playing a loud noise, and you turn it off by hitting a button. But instead of rejecting technological advances, it embraces them — then weaves in wellness components your phone sorely lacks.

It also offers a very functional feature of allowing its owner to schedule alarms for different times, on different days in advance. So if you’re like me — who wakes up at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday to go to the gym, but allows themselves to sleep in to 7:30 a.m. on Friday, and then on the weekend likes to lounge around until 10 — you don’t need to sit down each night to set an alarm. Instead, you can arrange it all in one sitting.

I won't lie — I still have a lot to do before achieving a healthy sleep routine. But having my phone no longer next to me on my nightstand has undoubtedly helped. I fall asleep quicker because I’m no longer shoving my screen in my face minutes before hitting the pillow, and I’m falling asleep deeper, unperturbed by notifications real or phantom. Sure, I still check my phone right after I wake up — but hey.
