I was walking past a Cancer Research UK charity shop and I spotted a bright yellow Spyder ski jacket in the window, with a Ralph Lauren Polo handbag draped over the shoulder. My curiosity was piqued because I know that style and brand is expensive so I sought out the price tag, and it was on sale for £60.
You won't always find designer brands and near-perfect quality items but if you're lucky, you may just find your new favourite dress or pair of jeans. And you'll always be doing a good thing. A period of my childhood was spent in poverty, where counting pennies to afford food and wearing clothes from the charity shop or jumble sale was extremely common - but I was warm and happy. And I have zero qualms about popping into one for a bargain as an adult - or donating a bag full of unwanted clothes, either.
