Ellyse Killarski joined the waiting list for multiple nurseries when six months' pregnant. Her son is now 18 months - and still hasn’t reached the top of most of them
“It puts an incredible amount of pressure on parents and takes away from the magic of pregnancy and having a baby.” was high so put her unborn baby down on the waiting list for 10 different nurseries in her catchment area – and some that were even further out. Ms Kilarski originally comes from Canada, but has been living in the UK for almost a decade. She says she and her husband have even discussed the possibility of moving back because childcare policies there are much better.
In response to Ms Kilarski’s story, a Scottish Government spokesperson said: “Scotland is the only part of the UK to already offer 1,140 hours a year of funded early learning and childcare to all three and four-year-olds and eligible two-year-olds regardless of their parents’ working status – putting children first.
