Most people have a pet, whether it's a cat or dog, rabbit or bird, most households have an animal in their life that they could not imagine life without. Providing cosy beds and plenty of food to their animal friends, but sadly this is not the case in every home.
This often results in them providing advice and support to owners who in some cases just don't know better, but at times they also deal with very serious cases of animal cruelty that lead to prosecutions. Inspector Porta explained: "Most of the time it's ignorance rather than blatant cruelty." I was dreading what we might see, my mind flashing back to the heartbreaking charity appeals on TV, but when we got there it was worse - there was no dog at all. From looking around the front of the property we could see a turned-over dog bowl, dog waste and what appeared to be scratches at the door.
After a quick pit stop for lunch and learning about the kit in the van, we made our way to a job in nearby Spondon. We had been informed that there were up to five small dogs at the property living in an inappropriate environment, but the concerns raised were actually just the tip of the iceberg.
