A garden of any size makes the perfect extra space for little ones to play in. But it can also be surprisingly hazardous for curious babies and busy toddlers alike. From plants to garden accessories, there are lots of things that can be dangerous for small children who like to put new things in their mouths.Remember: Never leave your baby or young child on their own in the garden.
Wherever possible, remove toxic plants completely, including the roots, and get rid of any fallen berries. If you have big mature trees you can’t move you may just have to watch your baby like a hawk and discourage any touching or eating of plants for a few years! Best of all, grow veggies and herbs which can safely be eaten such as strawberries, pumpkins and mint – older toddlers will love helping to plant and water them, too.
6. Keep tools out of reach Tools and chemicals are essentials for garden maintenance but can be hazardous in the hands of a curious baby. Store all fertilisers and pesticides in a locked shed.
