It's commonplace for retired footballers and athletes to pursue media careers once their playing days are over - but not everyone's cut out for broadcasting.
Pennant, 41, lasted 19 days in the Big Brother house before he was evicted, but he feels enough happened during that time to turn broadcasters against him. The former Arsenal prospect - who also turned out for the likes of Stoke, Wolves, Wigan and Birmingham - does appear on talkSPORT but clearly feels his punditry opportunities have been hamstrung by his reality TV stint.
"Obviously the way I behaved on the show wasn't great, and that was not good. It didn't have a massive impact but it did affect me a bit, it took me time to get away from that scene and into punditry, media." In 2005, the former Liverpool winger was also given a suspended jail entrance after he was caught drink-driving while uninsured and already banned. He served 30 days behind bars and was forced to wear an electronic tag while on parole.
