Parents of Xynthia Hawke speak out after trial in France hears how anaesthetist botched ventilation during caesarean

how anaesthetist Dr Helga Wauters, 51, who had been drinking, placed a ventilator tube down Xynthia’s oesophagus instead of her windpipe. Starved of oxygen, Xynthia went into cardiac arrest. She died four days later. For the Hawkes, the tragedy was unthinkable, impossible. Both Xynthia and her elder sister, Iris, were born at home. Fraser had delivered Xynthia himself after heavy snow meant the midwife could not get to their home and they could not get out.
