'I have lost the two most important women in my life and feel so alone'

This was a terrible shock but, three years ago, I met a lovely woman who became my partner. We each kept our own homes but saw one another every day until she, too, died last year. She and I meant so much to one another and it feels as though I have been deleted from their lives. I would so love to be able to talk to them about her.

Your partner’s family have not been in touch but maybe they think you to want to move on. Reach out and invite them round. Talk will turn to your partner and you can share how much she meant to you. Think what you have to offer your daughter, too. Be there for her. She lost her mum and maybe felt she lost you a bit when you were in a new relationship.

Dear Robert Smith – spare a thought for us poor interviewers | Penny AndersonThe interview process is seldom sparkling, but we do what we can, says writer and artist Penny Anderson Nah. Inane questions get perfunctory answers. I think it's fair to say that Robert Smith did try and answer the interviewer's questions pretty squarely after his opening remark though. What a ghastly and egotistical article. Why does Smith owe anything to anyone? He's not lucky to be honoured, he's a gloriously talented man. Lord knows why you think anyone is interested who you've previously interviewed...
