Money saving expert Martin Lewis has shared a 'banana' trick that landed a bank account holder with a handy £200 windfall amid the ongoing Cost of Living crisis

Martin Lewis has revealed how a fan managed to bag a handy windfall in the Cost of Living crisis – all by buying five bananas and a little effort online.

In the clip, he explained: "There is a bank that will pay you a bonus and you don't have to use its switching service, it lets you keep your old service. It's from HSBC it's for newbies." It goes on to explain that readers need to apply for the HSBC Advance account and then complete a number of steps within 60 days of opening the account. One step is to: "Spend 5+ times on its debit card. There's no minimum so you could just buy five bananas one at a time."

A second said: "Me too. This was a 2 part HSBC product switch/opening . The 2nd payment of £80 was due around now."
