which motivated her decision, but also the lack of availability. She had initially put Nicholas down for a full-time place in nursery for after her maternity leave when she returned to work full-time. However, when the full-time position failed to happen and she left her job, she had to cancel his place.

Angela says as she was working full-time, she did not have the opportunity to take Nicholas to playgroups and sessions and her grandmother wasn’t able to take him out a lot. She thinks theexacerbated the issue, but she believes Nicholas’s speech and development problems are a result of all the time he spent at home and his lack of interaction with other children.

Angela says that during her pregnancy with her daughter, she was so terrified about being in the same situation, she returned to work as soon as she could and her daughter is in full-time nursery.“Life is very difficult, particularly for parents like me from abroad who don’t have any family in this country to help them,” she says. “But I have always wanted to work and earn my own money. I don’t want to be given money or be on benefits.

She says that issues experienced by children may not necessarily be speech delay, but social interaction and communication difficulty.
