The PM is understood to be considering ditching the current education system for 16 to 18-year-olds and replacing it with a new certificate where children would study a broader range of subjects until they leave school

The psychiatrist explained how the variety of disciplines the IB demands a student study helps pupils avoid narrowing down their options too early, before they have had the chance to realise the path they want to pursue.

“You must do English, Maths, a science, a language and a humanity, and then your final option is an arts-based subject, or another science/language/humanities subject – so I did English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology and French.” “Having to do this is really helpful in creating well-rounded students and giving you something to talk about in Ucas applications and at university interviews. Also, doing more subjects kept life more interesting.”

“It is ironic that the 14-19 qualification reforms discarded by the Government were on a path to deliver a range of broad, balanced, relevant and engaging learning pathways for young people. It was being developed in partnership with teachers, employers, learners, the higher education sector and other stakeholders, based on evidence and guided by a well-resourced strategic plan.was warned that there was no good reason to scrap it but did so nonetheless.
