A 60-year-old husband has appeared in court after being charged with the murder of his wife. Dressed in a grey t-shirt, grey jogging bottoms and flanked by a single, female, dock officer, Michael McDaid spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth when he appeared from custody at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 22.
District Judge Grace Hale remanded the accused into custody and told him: “You are charged with murder and I have no jurisdiction to deal with the matter so you are going to the crown court and you will appear there tomorrow morning. The associated matter of the drugs will go with the murder charge and you will be produced there in person.
In a statement released over the weekend, Detective Chief Inspector Clare Dean, of Nottinghamshire Police , said: “As we announce this charge, my thoughts remain with the family, who must be going through the worst pain imaginable. In their family statement, Mrs McDaid's family said: "We are heartbroken over the loss of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie and cousin.
