Hundreds of passengers bound for Manchester became stuck in the US after a 'cherry picker' damaged their flight moments after an emergency landing. Travellers leaving Cancun, in Mexico, late on Monday had already seen their TUI flight delayed by four hours due to a medical emergency on the incoming service.

She says passengers were told to try and apply for their ESTA on their phones at first, but she did not have sufficient signal.
The pair discovered they would be staying in a Marriott hotel on a written note, but were told there were no facilities to get their luggage off the plane at the airport. "We had nothing," Mel said. "We had no toiletries, no change of clothes. They just kept saying 'keep your receipts, keep your receipts'.
"You just couldn't make it up. Two medical emergencies in one day, then a cherry picker damaging the door." Having landed at Charleston at 4.30am on Tuesday, she and her friend made it to the Marriott by 9.30am, just in time for breakfast. She said: "Out came the air bridge, these two passengers got on the plane, heads down, and everybody just clapped them. They were absolutely mortified."
