Police have discovered a large cannabis grow in a Nottinghamshire village. Hundreds of plants were found when police were called to a property, in Park Lane, Sutton Bonington, shortly before 6pm on Monday, October 23, when a strong smell of cannabis was reported.
Officers gained entry to a property and found nearly 300 plants in various rooms across the building. A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation, abstracting electricity without authority, and an immigration offence. He remains in police custody. Police say the plants will be taken away and destroyed and any growing equipment put beyond use.Inspector Tim Cuthbert, district commander for Leake and Keyworth, said: “Cannabis grows of this nature are often associated with busy urban areas, but as this discovery shows that is not always the case. I therefore urge residents in all our communities to be aware of the common signs associated with cannabis grows and report them immediately to us.
“These include a strong smell, people coming and going at unusual times of the day, curtains being continually drawn, and unusual whirring sounds associated with fans and extractors.”
