The number of health and safety incidents reported at Amazon warehouses is on the rise
GMB union numbers show 240 reports of serious injury or near misses were sent to the Health and Safety Executive last year, and 622 over three years. It said critics were determined to present a"false picture".For injuries to be included in the figures they need to be serious enough to stop a worker performing their normal duties for at least seven days, or be on a list including fractures, amputation, crushing, scalping or burning.
The data shows the number of reports to the HSE has increased every year, from 152 in the 2017 financial year to 240 in 2019. However the figures deal with a period during which the number of warehouses run by Amazon more than doubled from 10 in 2015 to 22 today.Mick Rix, GMB national officer, said:"Amazon are spending millions on PR campaigns trying to persuade people its warehouses are great places to work. But the facts are there for all to see - things are getting worse.
In December, GMB and the Trades Union Congress were joined by members of the shadow cabinet for a demonstration outside Amazon's London offices. The unions and politicians said that Amazon should be paying millions more in taxes, claims denied by the online giant.
Jeff bezos needs to pay his stuff better wages, better working environment and stop all the packaging his company uses before showing off giving to environmental money.
What bad journalism. Grouping serious injury and near misses in the same figure? Both are valid but the later can be manipulated by all sorts of personal opinions. In fact observations should be encouraged. Please give us the number of injuries and maybe even the LTI figures!
This is why the left are needed. Instead, they are banging on about abolishing women.
If you are running ads telling people why it's great to work at Amazon...I'm guessing it's not great
and the SOB's have the temerity to do adverts suggesting Amazon was made in heaven-Analytica advertising
The beauty of capitalism is that you not obligated to stick to a job
these places are automated , fast moving working on a principle of 20 minutes from order to ready for dispatch 24 hrs a day why? because customers demand it accidents will happen if operatives are not alert to their surroundings .

It would be interesting to see how it compares to similar companies. I guess perspective is too much to ask.
I often buy ruffled panties on Amazon, so you never see them!
But like the advert says Donna bakes cakes every Tuesday so it’s not all bad news at Amazon.
You beter believe it
Quite common at amazon
If your working in what is effectively a factory you need to have a bit of common sense and to be completely aware of your surroundings. The number of injuries represent less than one per cent out of the almost 30,000 workers. Just saying don’t get hysterical about it.
They need to pay their share, both in wages and taxes. It's not crucial industry for the UK's development right now - we're talking about the company of the richest man in the world, and a competitor with better labour-side practices can always replace them.
When they log cardboard cuts then I can see why.
I will admit I don't know the full story but running an advert saying how great it is to work for us is a bit creepy
There has been an upsurge in the airing of Amazon's advert eulogising the virtues of Donna's cakes.
