Loss of 25,000 NHS beds caused ‘serious patient safety crisis’, finds reportTen-year decline has caused sharp rise in waiting times for A&E, ambulances and surgery Is it a credible report? Is it presented in context? 40% of all NHS spend is on nurses. If you are required to save 3% a year you will have to cut nursing and if you cut nursing you will cut beds. The arguments about day surgery allowing bed cuts (true) are never offset by the demographic need for more care of the elderly beds. Journalist: Why was there a loss of 25k beds, Prime Minister? Boris Johnson: Nononono. What did happen was 41 new hospitals. J: But isn’t it a fact that they were either not new or only new wards within existing hospitals. BJ: They were new vaccines! ALL new vaccines!
