'Risk can't be eliminated in telecoms' but government can 'mitigate' risk, says Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab As UK allows Huawei limited involvement in 5G network, Raab says UK strategy will 'improve the security and resistance' of telecoms network

Tim Morrison, a former US National Security Council official, urged them to rebel.

It is where voice and other data is routed across various sub-networks and computer servers to ensure it gets to its desired destination.

And even if encryption means the information being handled cannot be spied upon, the fear is that a rogue participant could still crash the network - or at least disrupt the data flow. The core is distinct from the Radio Access Network, which is sometimes referred to as the"periphery".

While Johnson & Raab appear to be in office to run the UK it is obvious from HS2 and Huawei decisions that there has as yet been no transfer of actual power from those who ran things before!

This is probably drivel dressed up as fact.

There are two EU suppliers (Ericsson and Nokia) that the UK could use instead of Huawei.

BBCWorld Madness

China won’t let in professional medical help to assist with the C Virus then why should we trust them meddling in our telecoms network. Controls & data are now all in the Cloud which will be linked by 5G. If they get control of sensitive stuff then we are stuffed

Why don't we make our own 5G network in the UK instead of getting foreign companies to do it

nascent BorisJohnson TomTugendhat This shocking decision on Huawei is probably going to have far worse ramifications for the UK and the west than the UK giving the Rolls-Royce Nene engine to the soviets. DigitalSovereignty

BBCWorld

BBCWorld Also 5G for the government means they don't have the expense of digging up roads so stop the shit a d get on with building our infrastructure we don't care about the rubbish espionage conspiracy shit build it or get out of office.

BBCWorld How business survive here is beyond me our infrastructure is so shit we have basically zero % in any new tech markets and the new app and social media culture. our population is begging to be highly digitised consumers. But you can't when your on a 8k dial up modem.

BBCWorld We're not at risk. I don't feel threaten d at all. I do feel threatened by having a shit internet network compared to other counties the Brazilians have 50mb speed standard ? We have to beg for that or be born in a fire area. My phone has better speed than my home internet

Government goes with the cheapest provider, hardly a shock. What a shit show Johnson and his gang are.

So How big a risk is the newly elected Conservative and Unionist party subjecting the people to? Has Raab any idea how huge the risk is? He's handing over the Nation's Security to the Chinese Communist Party. Doesn't need Corbyn to sell our secrets, Raab is giving them away.

BBCWorld Of course we have the world's top strategists. brexit 😂😂😂😂😂

Another bum call by Johnson. As for Raab I wouldn't let him run a bath let alone the Foreign Office. We're governed by idiots.

BBCPolitics I thought we were meant to be “independent” now? Good on them I say, good on the govt (which I didn’t vote for) showing some backbone. How dare such pathetic mediocrities like Marco Rubio sit in the US Congress & lecture a UK government what it should do.

This the fella that didn’t realise how crucial the English Chanel was to trade? Yeah we should all definitely listen to him.

BBCWorld So, every Briton will be spied upon at all times... Welcome to America!

BBCWorld This reminds me of the scene in horror movie when the audience realizes the phone call is coming FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE! 😱

I would be prepared to wait until we were capable of building a 5G network ourselves. Shame we can't do it now.

Platitudes as usual from the guy who hadn't realised the importance of the channel to our trade...numpty

BBCWorld How odd, to achieve a greater degree of security and reduce risk one uses equipment/systems designed and verified in ones own country before build. But, since most British radio/telecoms companies were flogged off/closed in 1990's we end up in this situation. Like most business

BBCPolitics it's because one cannot guarantee the security that is the worry with this 2nd rate government in charge.

You politicians are a disgrace. You don't give a hoot about the British public. You don't care about the United kingdom either. Always running to overseas countries and ensuring that you kill the British public.

As if Dim Dom understands the first thing about telecoms and data security? Pfft!

good luck with that

BBCWorld you just chose a true loyal friend! now you know better , B limited! no need! that Dumb Trump was recorded ! Russia & USA are real threat to UK & EU !

BBCWorld We will live to regret this monetary decision and we will all be at risk!

BBCWorld One foot in the door is how it starts.. when this eventually turns sideways and they are patient it may not be right away you'll have no one to blame but yourselves.

Meanwhile, across the Channel in France, they’re entering their 65th week of protests. Today the police tear gassed firemen who joined the protestors who want reforms, but are being ignored by the most unpopular President in French history. Where are the BBC reports on this? 🤮

BBCWorld Still waiting for the government to explain these radiation levels.

This is the guy who didn't realise how important the Dover-Calais crossing was for trade and we're expected to believe he understands ANYTHING about telecoms and 5G technologies? P..... lease.

BorisJohnson is so lame... Why the UK has to use the unsafe 5G by Huawei? Does this make the UK better after leaving the EU?

Bonkers

I find it funny how this has only become a concern since Huawei became the second biggest selling smartphone company. Huawei have been providing us with equipment for years, but it wasn't an issue then?

There was no need for any risk. Clearly the trousered returns for Tory MPs outweighed any personal risk to them, as with HS2.

China's reputation should make it an easy decision.

US 'disappointed' as PM grants Huawei 'limited' role in Britain's 5G networkHuawei will play a limited role in the UK's 5G network - but will be excluded from sensitive geographic locations such as nuclear sites and military bases This'll go down as seriously short slighted by our government. I guess plenty have their noses in the trough They banned all Huawei equipment on high risk infrastructure. They announced they will only allow Huawei on low/no risk equipment, with a max cap at 35%. On top of that all Huawei equipment must pass inspection by GCHQ. It's effectively a ban when you get into the details. China National Defense Mobilization Law UK does not know this Law....😱😱

Boris Johnson gets final warning with Huawei 5G verdict imminentFormer senior government figures voice security fears as PM chairs meeting of NSC I'm not tempted to use any electrical equipment on the Underground anymore FriedBrain I keep hearing journalists talk about this like it's subjective. Hacking is attackers and defenders, you start with potential scope to attack. And the defender needs to guess potential and accomodate. So this, GCHQ need to scrutinise and legislate. It's not a subjective Huawei have been embedded into our network infrastructure for more than a decade - majority of household broadband hubs are made by guess who yep you guessed it Huawei - this is more about appeasing the US than security
