After the new plan was announced, Boris Johnson said: "In virtually every station along the line it's either faster or the same."
It estimates the full HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail projects, as previously planned, would have ended up costing about £36bn more than the programme set out on Thursday. But estimates of costs of big rail projects are notoriously unreliable. When HS2 was first announced, the whole thing was only supposed to cost about £33bn.
Yes. The fact that it didn't understand the promises it made are neither here nor there. This decision is a disaster a week after COP26 and they don't even know why!!!
It should always have started north to south, but you get what you voted for.
It was only ever a Pie-in-the-sky idea to win votes!! SURELY you people must have realized that..
Probably didn't expect to pay over 50 billion out yo cover people's wages during Covid. Someone needs to realise it's not a bottomless pit of money.

Conservatives, the party for the Southerners only
BBC yet again echoing the tory party spin rather reporting news and facts
How many billions have been contracted out to MPs friends and family to have their pockets lined before this decisions?
I don’t get why HS2 will end at East Midlands Parkway!?🤔 It’s not serving Derby, Nottingham or Leicester without a road journey on dubiously ‘quick’ roads! It will connect to diesel hauled services☹️ and lead onto a major junction all adding service delays☹️ It’s just too short!
Let's see Edinburgh never was told they get HS2 That's bad, but Westminster can make that work Leeds on the other hand was told they get HS2 and now don't get it What other label than a broken promise does describe this? Lie, sham, deceit, beguiling? Pick anyone

Wait till Railworkers go on strike in the next few months!
Should ask if they’ve kept any promises?
Can anyone link to a video of anyone in Governemt promising anything, any party, ever?
Just another broken promise for the heep.

I assume this is a rhetorical question.
A lady from the government said this is a wrong narrative which can be translated: This is not what Westminster wants to hear even though it is true Their statements have reached an Orwell-worthy level of twisting truth, logic and reality. Finally, something where they excel
