Coronavirus: How will London's economy look after lockdown?

Coronavirus is changing London. Some of it may be temporary, as the capital adjusts to the presence of an invisible killer, some of it will be more permanent.

after its fares income fell dramatically but that will only keep the wheels greased until September, when a second bailout looks inevitable. It should be stressed that many Londoners do not have the luxury of working from home, who do not work in offices, and who may have no choice but to travel on the Underground and bus network.

"If you assume the numbers of journeys are going down, then you have to increase fares," Mr Carter said. To earn their living, they rely on an army of commuters crushing together like battery chickens on the morning Tubes and buses, to spend money throughout the day. We're all working from home - we've had to adapt and support people with kids and those who don't want to stare at a screen all day.

It’s doesn’t matter after this weekends pub opening virus spreading exercise there will be no one left to worry

Don't live in London so couldn't give a rats arse.

If people continue to work from home and avoid public transport, there will be lot less footfall in London going forward. This reduced market size likely to put many businesses out of service, especially who rely on crowd to be profitable.

The lockdown isn't over just yet in fact if the government has any brains the easing needs to be stopped asap

People kept on mentioning Brexit. Is it a bird? Is it a dog?

Welcome to the Black Broadcasting Corporation

Ask again in two weeks time after the pubs have opened...CMO_England must be sat shaking their heads at the sight in Soho today, not to mention all over the rest of the country .. BorisJohnson taking a huge gamble here..

After which lockdown? After today's scenes lockdown 2 is on its way.

In the shit

It will survive lockdown just fine. It’s Brexit that will destroy it. Coronavirus isn’t causing banks to relocate jobs to Dublin, Frankfurt and Paris.

Depends how long the over-privileged 'second wave incoming' twitter crew wanna keep the younger generations in lockdown, ruining their futures and causing them immense anxiety, depression and financial difficulties. All I'm saying, £9250 for an online uni course.

Good to see the Beeb has shaken off that London-centric viewpoint at last.

Fine! Next?

It’s gonna be really really bad if the US has indeed been paying the English Government since 1871 and is now over.

I'd worry about Brexit more. You guys are buggered.

London's lockdown ended when the BLM marxists started to riot

That depends on how negatively you report it !!!

I think the city is doing ok, allegedly, they invested heavily in Nicaraguan Coco leaf masks and have a lot of government backers.

I'm sure laundered money will still be used to prop up the housing market in London. The Mayor Sadiq Khan and all the capital's politicians will turn a blind eye as will Estate agents and their lawyers beneficialowners offshoreaccounts coronavirus

After today in COVIDIOTS a lot of people will never know.

If SOHO is anything to go by pictured tonight then LOCKDOWN 2 LOOMS IN THE NOT TO DISTANT FUTURE !

Like arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

Very different , sadly many small business will suffer , larger companies will survive depending on sector , work from home will increase , and office space will have to change to something else

Probably better without the BBC's help

Crashed

Sh** and even worse after brexit.

Not an economist, but at a guess, not good?
